Position Overview: Reporting to the General Manager, the Controller plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates the operations of the accounting and administration departments, conducts analysis and provides feedback on financial performance, including preparation of various finance and accounting reports for internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and cost accounting reports
  • Prepare budget and forecast. Monitor financial performance by measuring and analyzing results, initiating corrective actions, and minimizing the impact of variances.
  • Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to general ledger accounts, and document business transactions.
  • Ensure internal controls are in place and monitored with respect to cash handling, inventory and payments.
  • Ensure purchase order system is maintained and monthly progress payments to subcontractors are in line with contracts.
  • Review bi-weekly payroll.
  • Ensure compliance with monthly government requirements including GST, PST, LST, T4’s, T5018’s and applications for funding as it relates to business opportunities.
  • Year end preparation including preparation of working papers at both a Review and Compilation level.
  • Direct the preparation of all tax records as required by tax authorities in a timely manner.
  • Supervise, support, and engage accounting and administration staff.
  • Understanding of ASPE accounting standards

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
  • A multitasker with strong organizational skills.
  • Experience supervising accounting and administration teams.
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and a CPA designation required.
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including financial reporting, financial data analysis, auditing, and taxation.
  • Strong computer skills, specifically with MS Office and specialized accounting software. (experience with QuickBooks and Procurify would be considered an asset)
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal regulations.
