The Fernie Women’s Resource Centre is a community-focused organization dedicated to providing support, resources, and programs for families with children aged 0-6 years old in the Elk Valley region looking for someone just like you! With programs in Fernie, Sparwood and Elkford, The Fernie Women’s Resource Centre is looking for an enthusiastic Early Years Coordinator. Working with the Executive Director the successful candidate co-facilitates drop in programs for families, parents, caregivers with children 0-6 and supports other childcare providers working in the Valley.

Job Highlights:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Early Years Coordinator leads the Early Years Team, and co-facilitates drop-in programs in the Elk Valley

  • Hours of work: 28-30 hours per week
  • Wage range: $27-30.5 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications
  • Located in Fernie, Sparwood and Elkford

Qualifications:

  • Early Childhood Education Certificate and/or 2 years equivalent experience working with children ages 0-6 required.
  • Nobody’s Perfect Facilitator training an asset
  • Strong understanding of early childhood development principles.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in using Zoom for virtual meetings.
  • Proficiency in digital marketing tools, social media platforms, and Canva.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Excellent time management and self-motivation.
  • Ability to lead and facilitate group discussions effectively.
  • First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
  • Reliable Vehicle and Class 5 drivers licence
  • Can lift 30lbs and manage 20 stairs

General Responsibilities:

  • Connect families with relevant service providers in the Elk Valley.
  • Facilitate group programming for children and families
  • Provide monthly statistical reports.
  • Plan and execute community events throughout the year.
  • Handle administrative tasks including digital and print marketing, event coordination, and communication with rental managers.
  • Display enthusiasm and passion for early childhood development.

Key Job Components:

Early Years Coordination Table(s) Chair:

  • Chair monthly meetings with early years professionals
  • Manage meeting logistics including agenda creation, minute-taking, and distribution.
  • Utilize Canva and social media platforms to share weekly program calendars and relevant information for Elk Valley families.
  • Act as a liaison between the families, the Fernie Women’s Centre early years team, and other service providers
  • Monthly reporting on program activities and outcomes.
  • Manage communication and community calendars for early years programming

Lead in the development of new early years program(s)

  • With the help of the Executive Director, design, plan, and coordinate new early years programs in the Elk Valley
  • Make connections with existing Women’s Centre early years staff, other service providers, School District 5, and municipalities to ensure community needs are being met without duplication
  • Maintain awareness of opportunities in the community for program partnership and funding
  • Maintain monthly statistics and budget

Parent-Tot Funtimes:

  • Facilitate a drop-in program following CAPC and Nobody’s Perfect Parenting guidelines in Sparwood (Mondays), Fernie (Tuesdays), and Elkford (Wednesdays)
  • Program hours: 9:30 – 11:30 am, facilitator presence required 9 am – 12:15 pm.
  • Conduct engaging activities including singing, dancing, and crafts.
  • Capture program moments through photography and post on private FB group with relevant updates.
  • Organize community events and guest speakers aligned with program goals
  • Provide monthly statistics on participation
  • Attend CAPC Coalition Meetings

Our aim is to raise the status of women, act as a referral and drop-in center, offer support to women and their families, and to inform and educate the public around issues concerning women. The Fernie Women’s Centre will strive for equality and justice for all women and work for the removal of barriers to women’s full economic, social, cultural, legal and political participation.
