Position: Membership Engagement & Event Manager

Location: Fernie, BC

Reports to: Executive Director, Fernie Chamber of Commerce

The Fernie Chamber of Commerce plays a vital role in building a vibrant and diverse local economy. As the leading voice for business in Fernie, the Chamber champions its members through strong advocacy, impactful programs, and strategic initiatives that support economic growth, sustainability, and community prosperity.

About the Role: 

This is a hands-on role where you will drive membership growth and retention through relationship-building while leading the execution and promotion of our signature events. This high-impact role also oversees our marketing and communications strategy to keep members and the community inspired.

Key Responsibilities: 

Membership & Community Engagement

  • Act as the primary point of contact for Chamber members, proactively building relationships to drive satisfaction, value, and long-term retention.
  • Manage recruitment and renewals to grow the local business network.
  • Manage member benefit programs (e.g., M2M Discount Program), to tangible “bottom-line” value for our members, and the membership database (onboarding, invoicing, and reporting).
  • Curate professional development workshops and training sessions.

 Events & Marketing

  • Take ownership of our signature events, including the Business Excellence Awards, the Chamber Golf Tournament, Holiday Kickoff Shop Local Campaign, and our popular Banter, Business & Beer mixers.
  • Manage all event logistics: budgeting, registration, vendor negotiations, and post-event analysis.
  • Independently secure event sponsorships to ensure financial targets are met.
  • Develop and lead marketing strategies to ensure every initiative is a “sell-out” success.
  • Manage digital presence, including social media channels (content planning and posting), website updates, and drafting our bi-weekly newsletters.
  • Design and produce engaging promotional assets—from digital social media graphics to physical posters—ensuring all materials reflect a professional and inviting brand aesthetic.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Support Chamber facilities, including the Fernie Visitor Information with tasks such as answering phones, responding to emails, assisting visitors and members, and other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Qualifications:  We are seeking an experienced, passionate individual capable of working with significant autonomy to supervise multiple complex projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

 3+ years of experience in marketing, event planning or membership management

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, WordPress, MailChimp, and social media tools.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously, take decisions and manage complex, competing priorities.
  • Experience with GrowthZone or similar membership software.
  • Education in Business, Marketing, or Event Planning.

Wage and Benefits: 

  • Full-time, year-round position (40 hours/week).
  • $25/hr, can be discussed based on experience and qualifications.
