POSITION SUMMARY:

Assist Early Years Coordinator with implementing a regular schedule of early childhood development programs for the communities of Fernie, Sparwood and Elkford. The goal of the program is to enhance the healthy development of children from birth to age six and increase positive parenting skills. Program runs Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings and follows the school calendar.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Parent Tot Funtimes Facilitator co-facilitates drop-in programs in the Elk Valley

  • Hours of work: 15 hours per week
  • Wage range: $25-27 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications
  • Located in Fernie, Sparwood and Elkford

Job Qualifications:

  • Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) Certificate preferred or equivalent experience
  • Experience working with and providing educational programming to children ages 0-6 years, knowledge of early years development, confidence providing education and support to early years parents.
  • Clear criminal record check and drivers abstract
  • Reliable Vehicle and Class 5 drivers licence
  • Current First Aid
  • Ability to deliver engaging program for children including planning a craft, sensory activity and circle time.
  • Effective verbal communication skills
  • Ability to demonstrate, promote and support positive parenting skills
  • Respect parental and cultural values, goals, and expectations
  • Self- motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Can lift 30lbs and manage 20 stairs
  • Agree to and follow Fernie Women’s Centre policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Early Years Coordinator in program planning and implementation for all three communities
  • Facilitate a drop-in program following CAPC and Nobody’s Perfect Parenting guidelines in Sparwood (Mondays), Fernie (Tuesdays), and Elkford (Wednesdays)
  • Program hours: 9:30 – 11:30 am, facilitator presence required 9 am – 12:15 pm.
  • Conduct engaging activities including singing, dancing, and crafts.
  • Engage participants in conversations about healthy families

Our aim is to raise the status of women, act as a referral and drop-in center, offer support to women and their families, and to inform and educate the public around issues concerning women.
