Whether you are an experienced trail builder or new to the field and eager to learn, this is an opportunity to spend your summer maintaining and enhancing the trail network that connects our guests to the exceptional outdoor experience we are known for. Successful candidates will work alongside experienced crew members and receive hands-on training in trail construction, maintenance, and guiding.

Position Overview
The Trail Maintenance / Hiking Guide is responsible for maintaining and improving Island Lake Lodge’s trail network as well as delivering safe, engaging guided hiking experiences for guests. This role requires physical endurance, attention to safety standards, and a strong commitment to environmental stewardship.

Primary Responsibilities
•Maintain and enhance the Lodge’s network of trails to ensure they remain safe, accessible, and in excellent condition.
•Construct and repair trail features, including bridges, boardwalks, water bars, and drainage systems.
•Clear vegetation and natural obstacles through pruning and brushing to maintain safe passage and visibility.
•Remove downed trees, branches, and other hazards from trails.
•Perform culvert maintenance to ensure proper water flow and drainage.
•Install and maintain trail signage.
•Lead guided hikes for Island Lake Lodge guests, delivering safe, informative, and memorable outdoor experiences.
•Monitor, mitigate, and report wildlife activity and potential wildlife conflicts in accordance with company policy and provincial guidelines.
•Provide first aid response and emergency support to guests and staff as required.

Qualifications & Requirements
Required:
•Valid First Aid Certification – minimum Advance first aid Level 3.
•Physically capable of performing light to strenuous work in varying weather conditions (hot, humid, wet, cold).
•Ability to navigate uneven terrain, including hills, slopes, wetlands, and forested environments.
•Experience safely operating trail maintenance tools and equipment (e.g., brush saws, chainsaws, Pulaski, McLeod, rake, pick, shovel, pruning tools, axes, and various power tools).
•Ability to safely operate ATV/side-by-side vehicles.
•Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
Preferred:
•Hiking Guide Certification.
•Chainsaw Certification.
•Previous wildfire suppression experience with valid S-100 certification.
•Prior experience in trail construction and maintenance.
