A steady job in a shop you’ll help run day to day.
GearHub Consignment is the newest location from the team behind GearHub Sports, Fernie’s independent outdoor shop.
We buy and sell quality used bikes, skis, snowboards, hockey equipment, outdoor gear, and apparel. Conveniently located off Highway 3 on 7th Ave, the shop is a place of its own, and we’re looking for an independent person who is comfortable, and confident, working on their own. This is a year-round role with room to take initiative and grow with the shop.
If you’ve spent years in retail, hospitality, trades, or any job where you looked after customers and kept things running, this could be a good next chapter. You don’t need to know consignment or outdoor gear. We’ll teach you everything.
What you’ll do
- Welcome customers and help them buy or consign their gear
- Assess incoming items for condition, then tag, price, and place them on the floor
- Keep the shop tidy, well organized, and a pleasure to browse
- Run the till, process sales, and manage consignment payouts
- Open and close the shop, with full training first
- Help shape the merchandising and layout as the space develops
- Stay in touch with the main shop for support and restocking
The ideal candidate
- Dependable, punctual, and organized, someone we can count on week after week
- Independent and self-reliant, happy to run the shop on your own for much of your shift
- Friendly and calm with customers
- Good judgment about value, condition, and fair pricing
- Curious about gear and the outdoors, no expertise needed
- Looking for a long-term role in Fernie, not a seasonal one
Helpful, but not required
- Customer service, retail, or small business experience of any kind
- An eye for quality used goods or clothing
- Experience opening and closing a shop or handling cash
What you get
- Year-round work with consistent, predictable scheduling
- Full paid training
- Staff gear discount
- A path to Store Lead or Supervisor
- Future incentive opportunity: for long-term team members who run the shop independently, we plan to introduce incentives tied to store results
- Starting at $21/hr, with the wage depending on your profile and experience
