Events & Program Assistant, Fernie & District Arts Council
Contract Position Summer 2026

The Fernie & District Arts Council is seeking a reliable, energetic, and community-minded individual to join our team as the Events & Program Assistant. This position plays a key role in the delivery of events such as Wednesday Social and Out of the Box Festival in addition to adult and youth summer programming. Working alongside the Executive Director and Arts Station staff, you’ll help ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for performers, instructors, vendors, volunteers, and attendees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with set-up and take-down of tents, tables, signage, and other event infrastructure
  • Support liquor sales and beverage service
  • Help manage crowd flow and provide general event supervision
  • Act as a liaison for contractors, community groups, partners, and volunteers
  • Assist in facilitating & leading summer programs
  • Pitch in with other event-related duties as needed
  • Support other Arts Station events or activities as required

Requirements & Expectations

  • Must be available to work Wednesdays from 3:00–11:00 PM on:
    • July 8, 15, 22, 29 and August 5, 12, 19
  • Other availability dates for consideration:
    • June 12-17th, July 25-26th, August 7-8th, August 13th- 18th, Sept 19th and 24th- 29th.
  • Additional hours may be added as needed and agreed upon
  • Must be 19+ years of age and legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Serving It Right certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start)
  • Able to work outdoors in summer conditions and be on your feet for long periods
  • Comfortable lifting and moving heavy items (tables, tents, coolers, etc.)
  • Ability to use stairs in a multi-level heritage building
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills
  • Experience in events or beverage service is an asset
  • Experience working with kids is an asset but not required. An interest in working with children is required.
  • Vulnerable sector check for working with children is required

Compensation & Hours

  • $25/hour (contract position – contractor responsible for own taxes)
  • Approx. 15-20 hours/week
  • Contract Duration: June – Sept, 2026
