About the Fernie Alpine Ski Team:

Founded in 1980 as the Elk Valley Racers Society, FAST has supported thousands of athletes and families over nearly 50 years. Today, the club includes 170 athletes from over 100 families, ranging in age from 5 to 20, representing the Elk Valley, Kootenays, Southern Alberta, and beyond. Several alumni have gone on to compete at the World Cup and Olympic levels, proudly representing our Community on the world stage.

About the Role:

Fernie Alpine Ski Team is looking for Full and Part Time coaches to join the FAST team for the 2026/2027 season to continue the legacy of developing athletes who have a lifelong passion for skiing, sport and that share the values of having fun, working hard and team work. 

We are now taking applications for U8-U16 roles which can be 1-4+ days a week and could involve, depending on role, increasingly significant travel to multiday races for older age groups across British Columbia.  Depending upon the age group the season can run from November, December or January until early April and could train weeknight(s) in Calgary, Fridays in Fernie, Christmas Camps and Weekends. FAST also has several summer camps. 

Qualifications:

• Alpine Ski Racing Background preferred
• Must be able to ski confidently above the age group level as the program is focused on developing strong skiers who can also ski Fernie’s Terrain!
• Previous Ski coaching/Instructing Experience preferred
• Will be required to have a minimum ACA-CSC Entry level ( EL) or level 1 coach before season starts which will at minimum include safe sport and a background check.
• Very strong focus on snow, racing and mountain safety
• Strong Communication Skills
• Ability to demonstrate and execute coaching plan and drills 
• Dedicated to the entire season
• Team oriented with the ability to take direction, work with the entire coaching staff
• Comfortable in working with Parents and Athletes and Coaches in a professional manner

Compensation 

• Starting at $20/hr, wage rate will depend on ability and experience

Competitive with experience, skill level  and age group coached
