Job Description
The Maintenance Assistant will support the Elk Valley Family Society’s Maintenance Department with a wide range of daily tasks and projects. This role provides hands-on experience in communication, coordination, repair, and facility upkeep, making it ideal for someone interested in developing practical trade skills while working in a supportive non-profit housing environment.
Experience and requirements
- Lawn care and general building maintenance skills would be an asset
- Must be enrolled in school for Fall 2026–This job is part of the 2026 Canada Summer Student Jobs Program
- Must be permanent resident of Canada

Tasks
– Assisting with general maintenance tasks such as landscaping, painting, staining, minor repairs, and site cleanup.
– Supporting licensed tradespeople — including plumbers, electricians, and other contractors — by preparing work areas, carrying materials, and helping with basic tasks as requested.
– Coordinating with contractors on-site, including communicating schedules, accessing units, and ensuring safety protocols are followed.
– Gaining experience in facility operations and project coordination by participating in property improvement projects.
– Developing strong tenant communication skills through respectful interactions with residents from diverse backgrounds.
– Helping maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for tenants across all Elk Valley Family Society properties.
