Bower Builders is looking for a Red Seal Carpenter (2) to join our team in Fernie.
We build a small number of high-end custom homes each year. Our projects are architecturally interesting, highly detailed and built to a standard where the little things matter.
We’re not a production builder, and we’re not interested in becoming one.
We’re looking for a carpenter who takes genuine pride in their craft—someone who notices when something is 1/16” off, thinks through a detail before cutting it, and would rather do something properly once than fix it twice.
We have exciting custom projects booked well into 2029, so we’re looking for someone who wants to find a long-term home with a company that is growing.
This is for you if…
You are a carpenter who can be trusted to pick up a set of drawings and get to work.
You can lay out a wall, frame a roof, install a window, build a complicated detail and finish something to a high standard without needing someone standing over your shoulder.
You understand that custom home building requires more than carpentry skills. It requires problem solving, communication, planning and ownership.
And you don’t mind helping the team when the job calls for it.
What you’ll be doing
Depending on the project and your strengths, you’ll be involved in:
- Framing and structural carpentry
- Layout and interpretation of construction drawings
- Window and exterior door installation
- Building envelope and air-sealing details
- Exterior cladding and siding
- Interior finishing and detailed carpentry
- Stair and architectural detail work
- Material planning and jobsite organization
- Working alongside and coordinating with other trades
- Identifying problems and helping develop practical solutions
- Maintaining a clean, organized and professional jobsite
- Mentoring apprentices and less-experienced team members
You’ll be involved in the build—not just one small piece of it.
We want our carpenters to understand why we’re building something a certain way, not just what needs to be done.
What we’re looking for
Required:
- Red Seal Carpenter certification
- Strong residential construction experience
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings
- Strong understanding of layout, framing and building practices
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Valid driver’s license
- Commitment to safety and quality
A major plus:
- Experience building high-end custom homes
- Strong finishing/detail carpentry skills
- Building envelope / high-performance construction experience
- Experience mentoring apprentices
- Experience taking ownership of portions of a project
- A good eye for detail
- A practical, solutions-oriented mindset
