GearHub Consignment is a growing new location from the team behind GearHub Sports, Fernie’s go-to outdoor shop. We buy and sell quality used bikes, skis, outdoor gear, apparel, and clothing – and we’re expanding fast. A full hockey section and shop is coming soon, and we’re exploring sharing the space with one or more other businesses to create a second hub in Fernie. Right now it’s a blank canvas: expect an early focus on merchandising and revamping the space before it’s the polished shop it’s going to become.

This is a great fit for an independent, self-driven person who loves spreading their enthusiasm for gear — hockey fans especially welcome. This is an entry-level role with real variety, from greeting customers and processing consignment items to keeping the floor looking great and managing the shop during your shift. We’ll train you on everything you need – what we can’t teach is a friendly attitude and a genuine interest in the outdoors.

What the role looks like day to day

• Welcome customers and help them buy or sell gear, apparel, and clothing — we’ll teach you how consignment works
• Receive and assess incoming items: check condition, tag, price, and put them out on the floor
• Help lead the early merchandising push — revamping and laying out the space as the store grows into its hockey section and shared-hub future
• Keep the shop tidy, well-organised, and easy to browse
• Handle the till, process sales, and manage consignment payouts
• Open and close the store — you’ll get full training before flying solo
• Stay in touch with the GearHub team for support and restocking
• As the hockey shop comes online, help build out that section — skate sharpening experience is a bonus

We’re looking for someone who is

Must have

• Friendly and approachable
• Reliable and organised
• Comfortable working independently — this role suits a self-driven, entrepreneurial mindset
• Genuine interest in outdoor gear, apparel, or the mountain lifestyle

Nice to have

• Any customer-facing work experience
• Eye for quality used gear or clothing
• Familiarity with bikes, skis, outerwear, or outdoor apparel brands
• Experience opening/closing a retail space
• A hockey fan, or knowledge of hockey gear
• Ability to sharpen skates (a great bonus)
• For outdoor enthusiasts with ski experience: openness to splitting days between this location and the main GearHub store as a rental/sales associate
