You love skiing and enjoy working with your hands. Whether you’ve spent time tuning your own skis, worked around rental gear, or are simply keen to learn something new, this is a chance to turn your interest in skiing into practical skills.
GearHub Sports is Fernie’s go to outdoor shop, locally owned, award-winning, and known for our service. We’re looking for a ski service tech to join our workshop team, keeping our rental fleet and customer skis in top shape throughout the winter season.
This is a year round or seasonal role and is all about hands-on work. Summer transitions into bike service. You’ll be tuning skis, maintaining rental equipment, helping keep the workshop organized, and making sure every pair leaving the shop is ready for the mountain. Experience is great, but we’re happy to train someone with the right attitude and an interest in learning the trade.
Who we’re hoping to find – any of these sound like you?
- Ski shop or resort workshop background
- Ski or snowboard tuning experience
- Rental fleet maintenance experience
- Bike mechanic or hands-on technical background
- Keen skier who enjoys working on their own gear
- Recent grad or career changer looking to learn a trade
What you’ll do
- Tune customer skis and maintain our rental fleet throughout the season
- Work on ski bases, edges and bindings, including waxing, sharpening, basic repairs and mounts
- Inspect equipment and identify issues that need attention
- Help maintain rental skis, boots, and bindings so everything is ready for the next customer
- Follow workshop procedures and quality standards to ensure safe, consistent work
- Keep the workshop clean, organized, and ready for a busy day
- Learn new techniques, equipment, and service procedures as your skills develop
-
Support other departments, primarily sales floor and rentals, and pitch in wherever needed in a busy, team-focused shop.
What we value most
- Genuine love of skiing and the outdoors
- Reliable, takes initiative, and pays attention to detail
- Enjoys hands-on work and takes pride in doing things properly
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment during the winter rush
- Willingness to learn and take feedback on board
Helpful but not required
- Ski or snowboard tuning experience
- Experience with ski workshop machinery
- Rental fleet maintenance experience
- Knowledge of ski construction, bases, and edges
- Bike mechanic or other technical workshop experience
No formal shop experience? If you’ve spent time tuning your own skis, worked in a rental operation, or enjoy figuring out how things work, tell us about it. We can train the right person.
What you get
- Staff gear discount on all brands we carry and partner businesses T49 & GearHub Consignment
- Training provided and opportunities to develop your technical skills
- Opportunity to grow into a more senior technical role
- Join a like-minded team — ride or shred together
