About the Role
Tourism Fernie is on the lookout for a creative, organized, and outdoor-loving Social Media Content Creator & Coordinator to join our team. If capturing magical powder mornings, buzzing community events, peaceful trail moments, and sharing them with the world sounds like your dream job – keep reading.
You’ll help plan, create, and share Fernie’s story across Tourism Fernie’s digital platforms, bringing our small town’s down-to-earth spirit and endless-adventure-energy to life through photos, video, and storytelling. From reels to reports, you’ll produce content that connects and performs, manage calendars, update our website, work with local partners, and support a wide variety of destination marketing initiatives.
This role is ideal for someone who’s flexible, thrives behind the camera (or phone lens), loves mountain culture, and is stoked to turn everyday Fernie magic into scroll-stopping content.
Job Responsibilities:
Content, Social Media & Digital Marketing: (~ 80%)
- Attend local events, visit tourism businesses, explore trails and terrain, and visit attractions to gather content aligned with the calendar.
- Maintain a consistent and engaging brand voice across all digital channels.
- Monitor, respond to, and engage with users across social platforms.
- Assist with influencer marketing campaigns and support external photo and video shoots.
- Work with the team to update written and visual content on the website.
- Stay current on social and digital trends, bringing new ideas to the table that align with our strategic plan.
- Assist in the development and implementation of the annual social media, content, website, and digital marketing strategy. Analyze performance and provide monthly and annual reports.
- Manage and organize the Digital Asset Management (DAM) system.
Other: (~20%)
- Assist the Marketing Manager & the team on other marketing and destination tasks and projects where needed.
- Help with local distribution of visitor-focused collaterals.
Experience, Skills & Requirements:
- Strong ability to capture high-quality video and photos (especially for short-form content) and edit them for digital use.
- Proven experience managing social media content and accounts (Meta, TikTok, YouTube, etc.).
- Proficient in using content creation tools and analytics platforms.
- Confident and professional communicator with strong copy writing and editing skills.
- Self-driven, organized, and reliable, with excellent time and project management skills. A team player with a positive attitude.
- Comfortable engaging and collaborating with local businesses, accommodators, and community partners.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop & Acrobat, and website content management systems (CMS).
- Outdoor recreation enthusiast with the ability to ski/snowboard, hike and bike – you’ll need to get out there to tell the story!
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and early mornings, with short notice based on weather conditions or event schedules.
- Applicants need to reside in Canada and hold Canadian permanent residency, citizenship, or a valid work permit (valid for at least 12 months).
- Successful candidate is expected to live locally or be open to relocating to Fernie. A personal vehicle is required.
Education & Other:
Preference in candidates with:
- Photography and videography skills / training.
- Tourism social-media marketing education / training.
- Marketing, Tourism or related post-secondary education.
- Tourism and ski resort town work/life experience.
Terms:
- Start date: August 2025
- Year-round, permanent, 32-40 hours per week, with flexible weekly schedule. This role will often require evening, early morning, and weekend availability, especially for event coverage and outdoor content capture aligned with Fernie’s seasonal highlights.
- Hourly wage: $21-24 based on experience
- Position includes a cell phone allowance, laptop and shared office space.
- Health benefits after three-month probation is successfully completed.
- Season ski pass to Fernie Alpine Resort and a season cross-country ski pass with Fernie Nordic Society will be provided at the start of the 25/26 ski season, as well as the Fernie Trails Alliance trail pass, for the purpose of content creation/acquisition efforts for Tourism Fernie, but also as an employment benefit. (Yes, your job will include getting out on the snow – then share it with the world!)
