Position: Outdoor Ambassador Student
Location: Fernie & Elk Valley, BC.
AmbassadorWILD is a community-driven initiative delivered by Tourism Fernie, focused on promoting sustainable outdoor recreation and environmental stewardship. It connects people with nature through education, advocacy, and responsible tourism practices in wild and natural spaces.
The Outdoor Ambassador Student supports safe and sustainable visitors and locals across key recreation sites in the Fernie and Elk Valley region. Working primarily outdoors in both front country and backcountry locations, this role focuses on public engagement, education, and stewardship. The Student Ambassador will work closely alongside the Outdoor Ambassador and assist with community outreach initiatives, including programming at local markets and schools, while also supporting on-site stewardship activities such as waste management, litter collection, and maintaining clean public facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote safe, respectful, and sustainable outdoor recreation practices to visitors and local users.
- Educate the public on backcountry safety, trail etiquette, environmental stewardship, and responsible behavior (including waste management, noise reduction, and minimizing environmental impact).
- Provide visitors with helpful local information, recommendations, and general support.
- Conduct surveys to gather visitor demographics, feedback, and observations related to site conditions (e.g., trail maintenance needs, facility concerns).
- Perform site stewardship and light maintenance duties, including litter collection, waste management, cleaning public facilities (such as toilets), and assisting with signage installation and upkeep.
- Capture photos and content from daily activities for marketing and social media use.
- Support educational outreach initiatives at community events, markets, and schools.
- Take on additional responsibilities as the program evolves.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Interest in outdoor recreation, sustainability, and community engagement
- Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions
- Comfortable engaging with the public and working as part of a team
Terms & Conditions
- Start Date: July 5, 2026
- End Date: August 29, 2026 (Contract is limited to 8 weeks max.)
- Position Type: Seasonal, Full-Time
- Hours: 35 hours per week (including weekdays, weekends, and evenings)
- Wage: $23.00 per hour
- Work Environment: Primarily outdoor settings
